Biscuit got sick three times on the drive home from Caprock Canyons, and every one of those times landed on the bare back seat of my CR-V. I spent an hour on my knees in the driveway with a bucket, a rag and a bad attitude. That was March 2025. The next week I ordered the Active Pets Car Hammock, and it has not left the vehicle since.
Twenty months now. Four nine-hour drives to Colorado Springs with a beagle mix who gets carsick on winding roads and a gray cat who howls for the first twenty minutes of every trip. I am not a gear person and I am not selling anything to anybody. I am a retired school bus driver from outside Lubbock, and here is what a hammock-style back seat cover actually did for a car that hauls two animals and one canvas tote full of bowls.
The cover that turned an hour of scrubbing into ten minutes
Waterproof 600D Oxford fabric, universal fit across the back bench, machine washable. I have run mine through the wash about once a month for twenty months.

On the drive home from Caprock Canyons, Biscuit got sick three times before we reached the driveway. The last one happened on the shoulder of Highway 207 while I stood there holding her collar with one hand and a grocery bag with the other. On a bare seat that is an hour on your knees. On the Active Pets hammock it is about ten minutes: pull the cover, hose off what needs hosing, wipe the rest, and the seat underneath is untouched. That difference is the whole reason I bought it.
A waterproof layer stands between a sick dog and your cushion
The listing says 600D Oxford fabric with a waterproof protection level. That reads like catalog talk until a 28 pound dog loses her breakfast on a curve. The fabric holds the mess on the surface instead of letting it soak down into the cushion, and the cushion is the part you cannot fix with a rag and a bad attitude.
It spans the bench instead of sliding around like a towel
For two years I used beach towels. Two of them, folded double, the striped ones that used to live in the hall closet. They slid on every turn, bunched into a pile at every stop, and the seat underneath got the mess anyway. On the April 2025 drive I pulled over outside Amarillo and refolded them for the third time in an hour. This cover spans the bench rather than lying loose on it. In twenty months it has not slid once, not on the climb out of Lubbock and not on the curves outside Raton.
It goes in the washing machine, which towels do not
Cold water, regular cycle, then air dry over the porch rail. I wash it about once a month and again right after any sick episode. Twenty months of that has not shrunk it or loosened anything I can see. The listing says machine washable and vacuum or wipe clean, and both of those turned out to be literally true, which is not always my experience with pet gear.
Universal fit covered the whole back bench of my CR-V
Universal fit is the phrase in the listing and I was doubtful, because I have bought universal things before and ended up with a cover that fit like a sack. I measured my bench before it came, right at 55 inches door to door, and figured I would be sending it back. It spans the back bench of a 2018 CR-V with no gaps at the doors and enough slack to tuck at the edges. I have not tried it in a truck or a sedan, so that one vehicle is all I can vouch for.
It gives a cat carrier a flat base that does not tip
Juniper rides in a Sherpa carrier on the passenger side of the back seat, on top of this cover, with the seat belt run through the carrier strap. The fabric gives the carrier a flat base. Before the cover I wedged it against the door and hoped. Now it sits still, even when I take the Raton exit faster than I should.
It stays in the car, so travel morning is not setup morning
It lives in the CR-V all year, which matters more than it sounds. On travel morning I load the tote, put Biscuit in her harness, set Juniper's carrier down on the passenger side, and back out of the drive. Nothing to install. The listing puts the whole cover at 3.04 pounds, and I have never once thought about that weight.
A vacuum or a damp rag handles the hair at the Raton stop
At the long stop in Raton, New Mexico, I open both back doors and vacuum the worst of the hair, or wipe the cover with a damp rag if there is anything worse than hair. That takes about ten minutes, and it means the last three hours of the drive do not smell like the first five.
The hammock shape keeps paws off the back of my front seats
The hammock shape hangs between the front and back seats, so the back of my front seats is covered too. Biscuit can put her nose on the console, because she is a beagle mix with opinions, but her paws stay on the cover. I still wipe the console at every stop. The cover cannot fix everything and I would not claim it does.
Twenty months and four long drives later, nothing has torn
Twenty months, four drives to Colorado Springs, a dozen vet runs and one weekend at a state park. Hair has worked into the seams where I cannot get it out and the fabric has softened. Nothing has torn, nothing has let go, and the waterproof layer still does its job. The last time I washed it, in October before the drive, I ran my thumb along the front seam expecting to find a split and did not. For gear that stays in a hot vehicle year round, that is a fair run.
What I'd Skip
Skip the hard-bottom seat cover, at least on my say-so. I have never owned one. I rode once beside the one in my daughter Beth's car on a grocery run in Colorado Springs, and that is the whole of my experience, so I will not pretend to judge it. Skip the plain seat belt tether clipped to a collar. That was my setup before April 2025, and the day Biscuit hit the end of it at a hard stop and coughed, I stopped using it. A harness with a proper tether replaced it. And skip the travel water bottle with the flip-out trough. Mine leaked into my bag on a state park weekend and went in the trash the week the collapsible bowls arrived.
An hour of scrubbing turned into ten minutes with a rag. That is the entire case for this cover, and it held up for twenty months.
Twenty months in a hot CR-V and the Active Pets hammock is still the first thing I pack
Waterproof, machine washable, universal fit. If your dog rides in the back seat more than twice a year, it earns its spot in the kit.
